Accessible Living with Hatted Handyman

Smart Home Solutions Designed for Dignity, Independence, and Every Ability

At Hatted Handyman, we’re reimagining what home can be — not just as a place to live, but as a system that supports how you move through the world. We specialize in privacy-first, adaptive smart home environments powered by Josh.ai or Savant — tailored for individuals who are blind, deaf, neurodivergent, mobility-impaired, or aging in place.

This isn’t about luxury.

It’s about comfort, safety, and control — delivered with elegance and intention.

⚠️ Please note: While it is possible to integrate both Savant and Josh.ai into a single system, it is a premium solution and not commonly recommended for budget-conscious clients. We help each client choose the platform that best meets their needs and income level.

Empowering Independence Through Thoughtful Automation

We deliver specialized accessibility-focused installations that support:

  • Blind or visually impaired individuals
  • Deaf or hard-of-hearing users
  • Those with mobility impairments
  • Autistic or neurodivergent residents
  • Aging-in-place and cognitive support needs

Our systems can be built using either:

  • Savant: Integrated with Apple’s HomeKit/Siri, ideal for clients embedded in the Apple ecosystem
  • Josh.ai: A voice-first, wake-word-free system offering the highest level of privacy and natural speech interaction

Accessibility Features by Community For the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Visual + Haptic Alerts & Controls

  • Flashing Light Alerts — Doorbells, alarms, and timers can trigger strobe lighting or color-coded LED cues via Savant scenes.
  • Vibration Notifications — Where compatible, we guide integration with third-party smartwatches or bed shakers.
  • Visual Intercom Panels — Savant wall displays can be used with captioned video feeds or visual door alerts.
  • App-Based Cues — Mobile and wall-panel interfaces provide push notifications and visual confirmations of scenes or system events.

For the Blind and Low Vision

Voice-Guided & Tactile Smart Control

  • Wake-word-free Voice Control (Josh.ai) — Naturally speak commands like “turn on the kitchen lights” or “set the bedroom to nighttime.”
  • Auditory Feedback — Confirm settings and status through spoken responses or subtle audio tones.
  • Spatial-Aware Lighting — Savant can trigger lighting scenes based on time or motion, guiding safe movement through the home.
  • Accessible Interfaces — Savant apps support screen readers, while tactile switches or simplified panels can be installed as needed.

For Autistic and Neurodivergent Individuals

Sensory-Friendly and Routine-Based Environments

  • Daily Structure Scenes — Automate “wake-up,” “focus time,” or “calm down” moments to reduce unpredictability and increase comfort.
  • Custom Sensory Profiles — Adjust lighting hue, soundscape, and temperature to align with mood or energy level.
  • Minimal Interface Options — Provide simplified control layouts or voice-only systems to avoid overstimulation.
  • Noise Management — Automated HVAC, blackout shades, and ambient music scenes help manage sound sensitivity.

For Individuals with Mobility Impairments

Hands-Free, Seamless Control for Every Room

  • Full Voice/App Automation — Control doors, shades, lighting, HVAC, and entertainment systems from a wheelchair, bed, or remote location.
  • Bathroom & Bedroom Routines — Trigger scenes for safe lighting at night, climate comfort, or morning transitions.
  • Access Control — Voice-enabled locks or timed access points can provide autonomy without needing physical reach or keys.
  • Entertainment Made Easy — Launch media, adjust volume, or change lighting from your voice or phone — no remote required.

“Design With Dignity” — Our Outreach Commitment

We proudly offer subsidized and low-cost consultations to individuals on government-supported or fixed incomes. Because smart, safe, and comfortable homes shouldn’t be reserved for the few — they should be designed for everyone.

Want to Explore What’s Possible?

Whether you’re upgrading a home for independence, helping a loved one with cognitive or mobility challenges, or simply want your environment to support your daily rhythm — we’re here to help.

PAWS ON PATROL

Remodels can be disruptive, but they don’t have to feel overwhelming. Sometimes, you may be greeted by Achilles — Jason’s adopted Great Dane and a service dog in training — during project discussions. Calm, steady, and unflappable, Achilles brings a sense of ease to what can often be a hectic process. Service animals provide emotional grounding, especially during moments of decision-making or sensory overload. For some clients, their presence offers comfort; for others, it simply adds a reassuring, friendly face to the experience.

At Hatted Handyman Services, we see this as part of creating an environment where people feel understood, respected, and at home — even before the project is complete.
